Strengthening Regional Ties: SBMA’s Delegation to Laos and the Lao Gold Festival
By SBMA
The Singapore Bullion Market Association (SBMA) led a delegation to Vientiane from 4-6 September to participate in the first Lao Gold Festival, which drew over 30,000 attendees and more than 350 exhibitors from across the bullion and financial sectors. The visit marked a milestone in SBMA’s collaboration with the Lao Bullion Bank (LBB), which became an SBMA Foreign Associate Member in June 2025 following an earlier 2024 MOU on strategic cooperation.
Delegates were given exclusive access to LBB’s headquarters, including its authentication and refining facilities, and a showcase of its gold bar dispensing ATM, highlighting Laos’ innovation in retail bullion accessibility.
At the festival, SBMA CEO Albert Cheng joined a panel on integrating Laos into the regional and global bullion ecosystem, alongside representatives from Brinks Global Services and Hua Seng Heng. SBMA Management Committee member Nuttapong Hirunyasiri also spoke on gold’s role in wealth management.
During the Gala Dinner, in his opening remarks, SBMA Chairman KL Yap emphasised that regional progress is strongest through cooperation, harmonised standards, and trust. The delegation also engaged with Lao government leaders and the Singapore Embassy, reinforcing ties beyond the bullion industry.
SBMA congratulates LBB on this important milestone and looks forward to building on this partnership to advance market development, capacity building, and standards alignment across the region.
